Goethe- Das Musical
The sorrows of young Werther - which, like so many great works of art, are highly biographical, become the plot and subject of a musical here: A young Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (with oe) falls in love with Charlotte Buff, who, however, is already promised to Johann Kestner. A love triangle follows, which - wild, dramatic and romantic - is finally recorded in an epistolary novel. And that in the musical of the twenty-first century, just like in Germany in 1774. In the end, it's on the stage of the Bad Hersfeld Festival - where GOETHE! 2020 premiered - so not just to pay homage to an exceptional talent, but quite fundamentally to the exchange between historical-personal truth and the poetry itself. The result is a music that is not historical, but - renouncing the pastiche so often glorified in music theater - a crossover of symphonic musical and pop culture. Goethe's portrayed career, his victories and defeats are - despite his prominent name - universal: After all, doesn't every lover become an artist, feeling in verses, pictures and melodies while trying to put his love into words? Art helps us to process the big issues in life: That's how it was with young Werther and Philipp Buttner as Johann Goethe on the musical stage. The bridge between the two is created here by the music - with melodies that fit into our century and rhymes that fit into Goethe's. A historical world emerges that is contemporary and can only really be felt in the here and now. In fact, GOETHE! Hardly any dialogue: there is a lot of feeling and therefore a lot of singing - both things that can be wonderfully immortalized with a complete recording. Captured live, GOETHE! - with Philipp Buttner (Aladdin, Das Wunder von Bern) as Johann and Abla Alaoui (Miss Saigon, Mamma Mia!) as Lotte - on July 1st on double CD. Before the play begins its second season on July 15 on the well-known stage in Bad Hersfeld, fans and those who will be there soon can say in advance: Welcome to the show!
