Ignatzek, Klaus -quartet-
Live In Bremen 1989
These now historic recordings were made 35 years ago in 1989 in Bremen. Our quartet was on a long, extensive tour at the time. My quartet consisted of the Argentinian trumpeter Gustavo Bergalli, the Belgian bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and the Austrian drummer Mario Gonzi. We had known each other for some time and had worked together in various line-ups with Claudio Roditi, Bobby Watson and Joe Henderson, among others. This concert was recorded on video by chance by the organiser at the time. I didn't pay any attention to the video for many years. One day I watched the recording and was pleasantly surprised by the joy of playing, the energy, the spirit and the feeling of the band. After experiencing this concert again, I had the idea and inspiration to release these recordings, and it was another 15 years(!) before I decided to release parts of the concert on CD. As the concert was only recorded with one microphone of the video recorder and the technical development at that time was not as advanced as it is today, not much could be done to the original recording; for example, the volume ratios between the individual instruments could not be changed. However, the background noise was eliminated and the overall sound improved.
