Duo Samambaia
Birimbiri
"Birimbiri" comes from a Brazilian proverb and is an apt term for the energy and joy of the two musicians in creating music together. The Duo Samambaia, a Brazilian jazz project, met in Vienna, with compositions by Fagner WESLEY (piano) and Marco Antonio DA COSTA (guitar). Based on compositions and author arrangements, the duo reconstructs the accompanying roles of piano and guitar in order to turn them into rhythmic as well as melodic instruments in an unprecedented dialogue. From the influences of Austrian jazz (Karlheinz Miklin, Gerald Preinfalk, Joe Zawinul) and Brazilian instrumental music (Alegre Correa, Egberto Gismonti and Ceìsar Camargo Mariano), the Duo Samambaia is rooted in the tradition of complex Brazilian melodies to project a future - once easy and intense, then strict and free.
