Afonso, Jose
Eu Vou Ser Como A Toupeira
The album featuring "A Morte Saiu à Rua" is a treatise on how to be political without being a pamphleteer, in a record that remains fresh, lyrical and unavoidable. It has some of the most striking themes of Jos Afonso's career. Opening the record, "A Morte Saiu à Rua": A thinly veiled tribute to the painter and antifascist activist Dias Coelho, barbarously murdered by the PIDE (Portuguese Political Police during the fascist regime of Estado Novo) in 1961. Also the melodic delight of "No Comboio Descendente", based on a poem by Fernando Pessoa.
