Put three guys and their instruments together in a room and theres no guarantee itll work. The unspoken, telepathic language of pure ROCK is either there or it aint. Its not something to be taken for granted, something that just grows, like black mold, on rehearsal space walls. But when its there, you know its there. It just roars forth and completely destroys the room. And that only happens when you hit upon the exact, right combination of veteran players. Dudes whove been around the block and know how to bash some heads. The YOUNG SKULLS are comprised of three such storied head bashers: vocalist and guitarist Peter Aaron (the Chrome Cranks, Avondale Airforce), drummer Chris Turco (Trans Am, Scene Creamers), and organist Matty Dread (El Front, County Hell). The trio came together in 2015 in the dimly lit basement of a grimy machine shop next to the railroad tracks in an isolated industrial sector of Kingston, New York, about two hours north of Manhattan. And thats pretty much what they sound like. Scraping sheet-metal guitar. Howling alley-cat vocals. Bashing, hydraulic-press drums. And wheezing organ that echoes the squealing iron wheels of the crude oil carriers thundering by hourly just outside their bleak practice chamber. They sound like all of that cool stuff, with songs. Catchy songs. Now the first two of those songs to be fired upon the world-coproduced by engineer Kevin McMahon (Swans, Titus Andronicus, Chrome Cranks)-come to you via the groups debut single on Slovenly Records. Side A, the thrashing, unstoppably locomotive "Bomb Train Blues," alludes to the deadly rolling stock of the bands rehearsal room surroundings. The flip side, "Were Gone," hits like a new wave nightmare rammed through the garage-punk gravel grinder: the sound of the Monks, the Kinks, Devo, and early Elvis Costello getting crushed into a rusty, chunky, and highly toxic powder.

In the winter of 2010, a spontaneous trip to Athens, GA became the birth of New Jersey/Philadelphia indie rock outfit YOUNG STATUES. The record first began to take shape at Chase Park Transduction Studios where a series of songs were recorded between friends-songs that were initially never intended to be released. Intrigued by the results of these sessions, songwriter and vocalist Carmen Cirignano decided to continue working on them with longtime producer and engineer Steve Poponi at the Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, NJ. It was here, with the help of bassist Tom Ryan and drummer Daniel Bogan, that these songs were transformed into the impressive debut record for a band comprised of longtime friends in the Philadelphia area music scene. Full of swelling guitars, intricate vocal melodies and introspective lyrics, YOUNG STATUES is evidence of a group of musicians who have honed their skills and made a record to be revered for its beauty, tact, and honesty. With its subtleties and urgency, this is a record to be listened to both alone and surrounded by friends. As their name implies, YOUNG STATUES are a youthful band, and with a debut this impressive, watching them age will be a graceful and stunning sight.

FARON YOUNG - Im gonna live some before I dieFaron Young was born on February 25, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana. This fact made him to know from the start the big bang of rocknroll and rockabilly, genres that will influence his country music ways.In his ten years at Capitol Records, where he was introducted from legendary Capitols A&R man Ken Nelson himself, his music developed from hillbilly and honky tonk in the early 50s to sofisticated rocknroll and pop at the end of the decade, to came back strong to his honky tonk roots at the early 60s.This EP collect four fantastic examples of his country ways from the mid 50s, when Faron was one of the most sucessed young singers in country & western. Some of the greatest studio musicians from the 50s are backing Faron on these tracks, including guitar luminaries as Hank Garland, Chet Atkins or Grady Martin and the whole Nashvilles A-Team. Country with a feet into rockabilly, thats what youll find on this EP, so turn up the volume and enjoy!

The rocknroll explosion of mid 50s made to change a lot of things in the USAs discography industry, and suddenly every record company began to search desperately his own Elvis Presley.Big lables as Capitol Records even forced their own singers to step into the big beat, and thats what happened with Faron Young. Farons rocknroll recordings where an accident forced by the circunstaces, but at least Faron was into the supposed age to fit on the new rhythm, and his friendship with Elvis Presley from his Louisiana Hayride days help him to feel more cofortable in that field thant others of his country & western colleages.Anyway Faron was a country singer and as soon as the likes for rocknroll decreased at the end of the 50s he came back deep into is old honky tonk sound.But nonetheless the rocknroll days of Faron Yound gave us some fantastic songs, as always superb backed by the Nashviles A-Team and produced with a great sound quality, as usual on every recording from the Owen Bradleys studio. In this EP youll find four great songs, swinging from strong rockabilly sounds to pop and jazz flavoured tunes. You wont find the Farons country roots on this tracks but anyway his brief rocknroll affaire is highly enjoyable!

YOUR LIFE ON HOLD is the melancholic but consoling soundtrack to a life of solitude and loss. The music expresses the inner torments when life gets stuck in sorrow and despair. But it also wants to comfort the troubled soul and soothe the consuming feeling of desolation. A gothic rock sound seemed like natural and fitting to express the melancholic and gloomy narrative of YOUR LIFE ON HOLD. Dreamy and atmospheric guitars inject brightness and colours into the dark compositions, while a tight and solid rock sound sometimes turns the melancholy into an angry harder wall of sound. Therefore we like to call it post goth, because of the rich array of influences and textures, bringing the classic gothic rock sound to a new level. While drenching the guitars in dreamy ambient effects, Wolf finally forged a new sound that would become the blueprint of the melancholic YOUR LIFE ON HOLD music. John Wolfs classic goth voice is the perfect finalization of his modern compositions.As if he were exorcising his inner demons, the lyrics of John Wolf deal with disillusion, pain and desolation: "Every night it happens, every night I die I wash away the pain with a gun in my hand I have a thousand dreams so I can fill up that hole I have a loaded gun for my twisted soul" (from Attawapsikat) But within the darkness, theres always a hint of light and hope. The melodic melancholy of Phoenix and Falling are therefore far more consoling than merely depressing, while the furious monster Exorcism is the fierce but firm translation of the burning restlessness of the soul. After getting in touch with Solar Lodge, things got in motion. While YOUR LIFE ON HOLD found itself a safe and professional home, the album got mixed by Artaud Seth (Merciful Nuns, Garden Of Delight), who gave the tracks that final exciting touch.

Drawing on influences from Broken Social Scene, Grizzly Bear and Explosions in the Sky, Your Move, Raincloud is for the most part another way of saying Samuel Francis Cain, as the 28 year-old songwriter is largely the sole aesthetic architect to a project that is in many ways still in it's infancy, yet in many others has unfolded over a long period of time.A plethora of instruments including piano, accordion, bass guitar, banjo, glockenspiel and reed organ are employed alongside field recordings, analog synths and four-track tape to effect comforting post-rock sketches that are both textured and dynamic, aided by the drumming of Matiss Dale, violinist Angharad Cooper and Alison Mure's voice. The album is largely made up of songs written and collected over a period of nearly seven years, arranged for this release between more recent works that together tell several short stories surrounded by a single larger one. Perhaps more resemblant of a novel in structure, the album shifts in it's chronology between intimate narrative and dense instrumentals, all contained within pieces that are drowsy, melodic and meandering. Enclosed in bespoke card packaging that parallels these qualities, illustrated by Chicago-based comic book artist Jeffrey Brown.
