Wynntown Marshals, The
Big Ideas
Big Ideas, the fourth studio album from Edinburgh-based The Wynntown Marshals, will sound instantly familiar to those who know the band and serves as an ideal introduction for those less familiar with their previous releases. Four years in the making, the album contains ten songs covering jangly, outspoken, radio-ready power pop, gruff, rootsy rockers, moody guitar-heavy tunes and melodic ballads - all underpinned by the heartfelt, poetic wordplay the band are known for. The Marshals, like the rest of the planet, have been through some challenges lately - and some of the lyrical content is inevitably informed by the events of the last two years (especially the title track and "Disappointment"), but - like the protagonist in the middle of the nostalgic, bittersweet album track "Tourist In My Hometown" - the band has "come out of the pain unbroken".
