Wilson, Jackie
Jackie Wilson- Mr Excitement
Fourth installment in the "Spotlight Series" on KOKO MOJO dedicated to individual artists - CD in three-part digisleeve with 28 songs plus liner notes about the life and career of Detroit rhythm 'n' blues tenor JACKIE WILSON. JACKI WILSON, originally from Michigan, began his musical career as early as 1953, a few weeks after his 19th birthday: as lead singer of the DOMINOES, the striking tenor replaced CLYDE MCPHATTER, who had previously retired. WILSON, quickly nicknamed "Mr. Excitement", but made a name for himself as a solo artist from 1957 - unforgettable, for example, his hit "Reet Petite". Also impressive are his duets with LINDA HOPKINS, "Do Lord", "I Found Love" and "Say I Do" which close this compilation. You can hear MR. EXCITEMENT as lead singer of BILLY WARD & THE DOMINOES on the first six songs, another 19 solo songs between 1957 and 1963 ranging from original rhythm 'n' blues to emerging glamorous soul and pop styles.
