Vest, David
Roadhouse Revelation
David Vest is a fabulous foot-stompin, house-rockin boogie-woogie piano player who can just as effortlessly play beautiful jazz and country blues ballads. Now a resident of Canada, Vest was born in Alabama in 1943, and grew up in Birmingham, not far from Tuxedo Junction. He played his first paying gig in 1957, and by the time he opened for Roy Orbison on New Years Day 1962, he was a seasoned veteran of Gulf Coast roadhouses and honky tonks. These are the authentic, Southern-bred experiences that have inspired this album.and he has the stories to prove it. His nicely weathered, unpretentious voice perfectly complements his playing. Vest is backed by a topnotch band featuring the great Teddy Leonard (Fathead) on guitar, Gary Kendall (Downchild) on bass and Mike Fitzpatrick (Downchild) on drums.
