Verrino, Emiliano
800: 19th Century Guitar Music
This CD by great guitarist Emiliano Verrino offers a fascinating itinerary throughout some of the most iconic masterpieces of the Romantic repertoire for the guitar. The listener will find here some of the most beloved works written for the six-stringed instrument during the long nineteenth century, including Giulianis Grand Overture or his Sonata Eroica, Tarregas Recuerdos de la Alhambra and his Capricho arabe, or some small-scale masterpieces by Metz (such as his Elegy and Romance), without forgetting his brilliant Fantaisie hongroise. Other works include pieces by Fernando Sor (two Etudes), by Aguado (a Rondo Brillante conceived as a homage to Beethoven) and Llobet (the Variations on a Theme by Sor), as well as a piece attributed to Tarregas teacher, Arcas (Fantasia on motifs from Verdis Traviata).
