Yiddish: New York - Paris - Varsovie 1910 - 1940
This is the first anthology of Yiddish music. This double boxed set covers all aspects of Yiddish culture. Apart from the breath-taking variety, the disc also presents some excellent artists such as Benny Goodman, Maurice Ravel, Ernest Bloch and the cantor Rosenblatt, and new recordings of classical songs including "My Yiddishe Momme", "Bei Mir Bist du Schön" and "Gefilte Fish". In the book of liner notes, Claude Fihman explains, "This panorama of Yiddish music is by no means exhaustive, but aims to instigate reissues of sound documents so they are available for the general public". This quality album can be offered as a collector's item to introduce amateurs to the Yiddish culture, or to bring back sweet childhood memories to connoisseurs. Includes a 16 page booklet with both French and English notes.
