I'm Believin'; Gospel Music In Middle Tennessee
Im Believin: Gospel Music in Middle Tennessee is a survey of a sampling of the different religious music traditions of the area. Types of song ranging from African American spirituals to an excerpt from the Filipino traditional "Pasyon Mahal" paint a colorful portrait of intimately shared religious scenes, many of which were recorded in the performers living rooms. This collection of field recordings provides an enriching window into the diversity that makes Middle Tennessee such a vibrant part of the United States. This recording is just a snapshot of current gospel expression here. Spanish speakers are common in Middle Tennessee; indeed, throughout the South. Some have left the Catholic faith of their native lands to adopt a more common Southern religious practice-Baptist, Methodist or Pentecostal. Middle Tennessee also has a vibrant Filipino community and we've included a religious ceremony not often found outside the Philippines.
