Teach Me Equals
Knives In The Hope Chest
The sound of Teach Me Equals originates with wooden instruments and swells from that natural place to haunting, cataclysmic refractions of pop music with ease. Erin Murphy (guitar, violin, vocals) and Greg Bortnichak (cello, sequencing, vocals) share an affinity for writing along the edges and exploring the limitations of their instruments. Recorded to analog tape and mixed/mastered by Joel Nanos (Red Key, Mumford and Sons), the album inhabits a massive space, informed and educated equally by the DIY/Lo-Fi scene - Bikini Kill, Unwound, Erics Trip, the Microphones - and jazz/ classical innovators; blending the minimalism of punk and modern composition with the epic expressions of Wagner and Coltrane. The 180 gram vinyl component contains a digital download card.
