Shovels, The
The Key
The Shovels, a legendary Belgian cult band have surpassed themselves again with this new CD called The Key. As always the sound of their new album is late sixties, but the songs are far from archaic or in any way outdated. This CD contains 16 brand new short songs, each of which is unique in melody and chords, not to mention the lyrics which are brilliantly refreshing. The Shovels are The Beatles of our time. They play with authentic guitars from the sixties and original late sixties transistor amplifiers. We feel free to state that in our time they are the only band that has an original and authentic sixties sound combined with very good new original songs. The Shovels are ready to start a cultural revolution that will bring good music back to stay! Fuck fashion! Their leader Erik Debny has proven in the past and now is proving again, that he is a skillful singer-songwriter who provides the right tunes for The Shovels. He sings and plays guitar. Nele Janssen, from the band Peuk, sings along with him and plays organ. Tom Vienne from the band Tonsils is the bass player and sings and Michael Bijnens is the fantastic gifted drummer on this record.. Furthermore there have been some talented guest musicians at work on this album, including Niels Hendrix, Kim Kang and John Joris. Some changes have been made since the recording of The Key, Aster Froyen and Arne Janssen have joined. The Shovels improve with every record they put out, this being their sixth album its their best to date, so without further delay: spin this disc and travel away to Erik Debnys world of wonder, enjoy!
