Shirley Holmes are either the most serious funny band or the funniest serious band. "Defiant irony" is probably the best way to describe the trio's approach to the increasingly loud background noise of current world events. The title of the new album "Mein bestes Selbst" (My Best Self) is, unsurprisingly, meant to be "87 percent ironic". At the same time, however, the songs themselves somehow also contain the completely unironic promise that, as a human being, you are already exactly right by default and only need to direct this rightness into the appropriate channels.
