Rendell, Norah
Spinning Yarns
Many people know Canada as a home to vibrant music traditions with roots in Scotland, Ireland and Brittany. From eastern areas such as Cape Breton, Newfoundland and PEI; to Quebec, the Ottawa Valley and Mtis communities on Canada's prairies; Celtic connections live on in the fiddles, accordions and dancing feet of current tradition bearers. Canada is also home to rich singing traditions, many of which show strong ties to Ireland, and these are less well-known. With the release of this solo album, two years after her last tour with The Outside Track, Norah is breathing new life into such songs - rare gems with an Irish flavor that were once sung by skilled Canadians such as Angelo Dornan from Elgin, New Brunswick, O.J. Abbott of the Ottawa Valley and Cyril O'Brien of Trepassey, Newfoundland.
