Renaissance

Live At Fillmore West 1970

In July 1968 the legendary YARDBIRDS had disappeared, and singer / guitarist Keith Relf and drummer Jim McCarthy found themselves in the short-lived folk duo TOGETHER. This project formed the core of the Folkrock band RENAISSANCE. In addition, keyboardist John Hawken from the Nashville Teens, bassist Louis Cennamo (formerly Jody Grind, The Herd) and Relf's sister Jane Relf, who was responsible for singing and percussion. Another "Yardbird", Paul Samwell-Smith, produced the debut album of the same name in 1969, and Germany's leading music magazine SOUNDS discovered "melting beautiful classical passages", which were associated with wonderful vocal harmonies and epic broad song structures. The same spirit conjured the album "Illusion" produced by Relf himself the same year. Despite great reviews and exciting concerts, Relf left the band in 1970, the sales figures of the two albums were sobering and for the former "Yardbird" probably too poor. Keith Relf and Louis Cennamo founded ARMAGGEDON, a new harder band project, the rest of the musicians founded ILLUSION. Both projects were not particularly successful. On 14 May 1976, Keith Relf died of the consequences of an electric shock. The recordings of this album were made during the US tour of RENAISSANCE on 6 March 1970 in the legendary Fillmore West in San Francisco. They are from the private archive of Jim McCarthy and are therefore a bit rougher than expensive recorded live recordings of record companies. But it's direct and charming documentaries of a great band from a great time when much was possible! Limited edition of 1000 copies in 180 gram heavy-weight vinyl!
