Rain Sultanov is a leading jazz saxophonist who has made a great contribution to the development of jazz culture jazz culture in his native Azerbaijan. Rain met Joe Zawinul in the 1990s and a lifelong friendship developed. Zawinul praised Rain Sultanov's music, and he was both inspiration and mentor for Sultanov. After Zawinuls passing in 2007, Rain Sultanov invited some of Zawinuls legendary musicians who performed with Joe Zawinul Syndicate for more than 20 years, to form an orchestra, the Rain Sultanov Syndicate.
