"Step forward" has been recorded in Brooklyn-New York at HardLuck Studios in 2008 .In this "live sessions" the band had the collaboration of some of the greatest ska-jazz bass players (Val Douglas legendary Skatalites bass player , and Kevin Batchelor current member of Skatalites).But the real secret of this album is that the line set of NYSJE has been completed and solidified with some of the best ska and reggae musicians all over the world (Fred Reiter-saxophones and flute,Alberto Tarin -guitars,Yao Dinizulu-drums and percussion,Earl Appleton-organs and pianos and Mark Paquin-trombone). This ensemble of great musicians has recorded one of their best albums ever with the same formula they used for their former records, NYSJE have mixed jazz tunes with great traditional ska,rock steady and roots reggae music..And even though their songs are full of other flavours (latin jazz,funk,R&R,blues) their newyorika taste makes this band really different and original from the rest .We are talking about a really high quality album with a powefull sound and a very careful production.We are talking about a band that doesn need to re-record the same songs over and over again at the studio.Just live sessions as jazz musicians do.No way for kidding just pure music that will go straight to your soul.No way to escape from this dancecrasher :just "step forward".
