Surprisingly, this is the first time these two Brazilian pianists have ever performed together, and when the instruments they play are beautiful, hand-crafted Fazioli concert grand pianos, the evening soars into the realm of the transcendent. Recorded in 2007, Live at Carmoor features Santos Neto and Iago, performing solo and in tandem, on original compositions and songs written by such Brazilian composers as Hermeto Pascoal, Pixinguinha, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Santos Neto was twice nominated for Latin Grammy awards. Weber Iago is a stalwart jazz performer/composer/arranger. As the duos performance at Caramoor drew to a close, saxophonist Joe Lovano joined them on an amazing version of Antonio Carlos Jobims "Wave." Special things happen in jazz at the spur of the moment, and THIS was a surprise captured for the ages.
