Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co.
Make Way For Mother Mallard
"I founded Mother Mallards Portable Masterpiece Co. in the spring of 1969. I was Composer-Pianist for Dance at Cornell University but I had also been working nights for two years at the Moog Company in Trumansburg, NY, a short drive from Ithaca, trying to understand the then-in-development Moog Synthesizer for making music and possibly to use it in live performance. By 1970, we started performing live with synthesizers. Bob Moog was an early supporter of the band and made sure we had the synthesizers we needed." David Borden Founded in 1969, by composer David Borden, Mother Mallard were the worlds first live-performing, all-synthesizer ensemble, who, by 1970, were playing all original compositions. This release celebrates 50 years of work by David Borden and musicians! Included are two CDs, all of which are previously unreleased recordings. Disc One is all recordings from the 70s, featuring the original, all-analog, synthesizer ensemble. Disc Two features his ensembles last studio and live recordings from 2019 and draws from his acclaimed The Continuing Story Of Counterpoint series and also featured the ensemble back to using all of the original equipment they had used in the 70s!
