Mopes, The
Accident Waiting To Happen
The punk rock chupacabras known as THE MOPES have been sighted off and on since their series of releases on Lookout Records in the mid-nineties (playing a range of one-off shows). THE MOPES are sort of an all-star band of buds consisting Dan Vapid and John Jughead (SCREECHING WEASEL), B-Face (THE QUEERS), and Dan Lumley (SQUIRTGUN). The idea was simple: to create a band to play songs written by each member during downtime from their respective bands. The product was Accident Waiting to Happen, an 11-song album that has gained a cult following among fans of their individual bands--widely considered one of the best albums produced during the late Lookout era. This album is an absolute classic that flew under the radar in a crowded release schedule in the mid-nineties. Now, 18-years later, the album has been resurrected with new artwork and a re-sequenced master by Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana. The album also includes two unreleased tracks, "The Getaway" and "Circle K".
