Moore, Dudley
Them From Beyond The Fringe & All That Jazz
His initial career might have been as a comic, or perhaps more accurately the comic foil for Peter Cook, but Dudley Moore always retained his love of jazz. Indeed, he provided many of the musical interludes in Beyond The Fringe, most notably his rendition of the Colonel Bogey March. Plays The Theme From Beyond The Fringe features Dudley fronting a trio with Peter McGurk and Chris Karan, offering such numbers as Theme From Beyond The Fringe and extended jazz workouts on I Love Paris and Whats New, among others. It becomes quite apparent how much Dudley styled his play and was influenced by Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner, although as this album adequately shows, he was no mean improviser himself.
