Midnight Ravers
Sou Kono (remix)
Unanimously acclaimed by critics, Midnight Ravers has succeeded to deliver via his second album a complete work, where the image (picture and video), music and live performance animate the soul of a modern & radically changing Mali, where the West and the national cultural tradition mingle with generosity and subtlety. Proof - if any more was needed- that Midnight Ravers is now a key element of the promising African electronic music. This sexy and sophisticated universe of international references is present in this EP!Each artist has immediately agreed to reinterpret in his own way one of the tracks on the album in order to give shape to this new record of 4 tracks. This album definitely represents modern African musical diversity, so dear to Midnight Ravers. SPOEK MATHAMBO (Cape Town) The South African artist SpoekMathambo is a major reference ofafro activism! Rapper, designer, dancer and director, the artist native of Johannesburg does not count anymore his trips and international collaborations: Sibot (Playdoe) Gnucci, DJ Spoko, Okmalumkoolkat. Along with Fantasma and Batuk - his current two projects - Spoek continues to broadcast his innovative vision of South Africa with pride. GULLS (Portland) Boorman Nation - a teeny-tiny record label based in Oregon - and its manager are one body.Indeed, the editorial line and theartistic boss are the product of an experimentation room celebrating the inclusive nature of the bass music! Result:a kaleidoscope where crushing and syncope techno, dub and deep distort or amplify the ancestral sounds of the Sahara and the Sahel. MAWIMBI (Paris) The Mawimbi crew is probably what is most exciting about Paris and elsewhere in France in terms of productions, parties, performances, workshops, and compilations! By maddening for nearly 3 years the Parisian nights with their Afrobeat / techno / kwaito waves (mawimbi in Swahili), this unusual collective has created a valuable bridge between a musical heritage influenced by the African continent and the ultra contemporary sounds. SIMBAD (London) Friend of the great internationalist guru Gilles Peterson (who made him and his producer residents of his Worldwide Festival in Sete) ,acclaimed by Flying Lotus or Laurent Garnier, official remixer of the excellent Tropicalist UK label Sofrito Records, Simbad is unanimously recognized as the young producer who gives to booty music ( funk, broken beat , dancehall , house or hip hop ) its letters of nobility.
