Melanie was born and raised in Grand Haven Michigan, where she began singing and expressing her love for music at the age of seven. By the age of ten, she had performed in the musical Sweeney Todd with Tony Award Winner George Hearn and Pamela Meyer. Melanie graduated from Hope College with a BA in Musical Theatre. She has studied opera in Buenos Aires, Argentina at Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte and trained at Hillsong College in Sydney, Australia. Since moving to New York, she has sung at Birdland, The Plaza Hotel, The Carlton, Toshi's as well as other venues. Her influences are Billie Holiday, Stacey Kent, and Nat King Cole
