I Fiati Di Milano
20th Century Music For Wind Ensemble
This Da Vinci Classics album features some masterpieces for winds, written in the twentieth century. It opens with Stravinskys Concertino, adapted by the composer after a work for string quartet. Then comes Darius Milhauds Cinquième Petite Symphonie, a miniature symphony for miniature orchestra, followed by the first Serenade composed by Vincent Persichetti as a teenager. The three remaining works are by Robert Nagel, the trumpet player who founded the New York Brass Quintet, by Michael Colgrass (his Concertino for Timpani) and by Brent Heisinger (March for Timpani and Brass).
