Holcomb, Roscoe
Close To Home
Recorded in 1975 at his eastern Kentucky home, this is the last album Holcomb released before his death in 1981. A coal miner and farmer for much of his life, those struggles are reflected in his sparse, haunting recordings. Featuring only Holcomb on vocals, guitar, and banjo, Close To Home is a beautiful collection of folk-blues and old-time ballads including the epic "The Village Churchyard". Lovingly reissued on vinyl with an exact replica of the original Folkways jacket and booklet.
