Leader (along w/ Pete Fountain) of the 1950s/1960s New Orleans Traditional Jazz revival. Recorded for the Southland, Audio Fidelity, RCA and Monument labels in his classic 50s, 60s, 70s heyday. Had 1 platinum and 4 gold LPs, plus 21 Grammy nominations in his five decade career. Had a million selling, #4 record in 1964 w/ Alan Tousaint's composition ''Java''. Recorded several popular duet LPs with Pete Fountain. Recorded the theme for the mid 60s TV show ''The Green Hornet'' that was also used in the 2003 film ''Kill Bill'' (Quentin Tarentino).
