El Big Quilombo
Gadjo is a rag-tag bunch of instrumentalists who are daft about Gypsy music.El Big Quilombo is the bands third album - a wild journey that takes you from the middle of a jumping ska-mosh pit into the brassy arms of a drunken fanfare, one second dancing swing to a busking band in salty mediterrenean streets, the next waltzing a chanson franais under an African sky, then from a dizzy all night balkan wedding party you tumble to an after- hours English festival just in time to catch an intimate song with accordion by the fireside that leaves your skin tingling and heart upturned. Stories of cycling circus girls and broken bikes, agoraphobic lovers and lost muses, travelling with the band and running away from the band, border guards, busking and travelling clans all take their turn. 4 voices, 3 languages, several newly chiseled words and 18 instruments weave in and out of the songs in beautiful mayhem. The crazy mixed up chaos that in South American slang is 'El Quilombo' is what Gadjo have called their new cd, in praise of the musical madness they love, live and make
