Between Nothing And Always
FERMIUM are an enigma. In November 2021 they appeared on the scene with their self-titled EP, produced by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Loma Prieta), and in 2022 they made their live debut at Fusion. Where this band suddenly came from - no one really knew, but one thing was certain: existentialism hasn't sounded so breathtaking for a long time, as everyone who has been lucky enough to have caught the band at one of their rare live performances since then can attest . Quite naturally, they seem to redefine what is musically possible with such supposedly unheard-of genres as hardcore, doom or industrial - and are now and then surprisingly catchy without ever losing their heaviness. The variety of musical influences is less surprising when you look at the bands in which the musicians involved have already been involved, such as Svffer, Der Ringer and Ashes of Pompeii - musical blinders are obviously not wanted here. In their press photos, the band's faces can only be seen distorted, which can certainly be understood as a statement: In this project, the music is in the foreground, the members are to be seen as part of the collective.
