Elliott, Jack -& Derroll Adams-
Folkland Songs
American music pioneers Jack Elliott (guitar, vocals) and Derroll Adams (banjo, vocals) in the 1950's followed in the footsteps of predecessors such as Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston, The Carter Family, Leadbelly and Pete Seeger. After working together for some time they decided to conquer Europe with their music as street musicians. They traveled throughout Western Europe for a year. In that year 1957 the duo was offered a recording contract by Mercury Records in Milan, Italy. The few days in the studio resulted in 28 historic tracks. Various songs from these recordings have appeared on various releases over the years, but the two Joker-SM 3023 and SM 3024 with all 28 recordings remained the original and classic LPs. After a one year partnership Jack went back to the USA, but Derroll stayed in Europe. Over a long a long period of time, Strictly Country Records has maintained a friendly relationship with Derroll and his wife Danny Adams, who then lived in Antwerp. After Strictly Country Records obtained the digital masters of the Italian recordings, it was decided to re-master them using today's technology and make this historical music available again. All fans, young and older, can now enjoy this magic again from almost 70 years ago, brought to us by Derroll Adams (USA, November 27, 1925 - Belgium, February 6, 2000) and the (Ramblin') Jack Elliott) USA, August 1, 1931), still an active singer/story teller in his homeland America.
