Doughboys
Is It Now ??
Plainfield, NJ - the 60s: Richard X. Heyman, Willy Kirchofer and Mike Caruso form The Ascots in the fall of 64. In 65, they add Myke Scavone and Mike Farina and become The Doughboys. 1966: The Doughboys win a recording contract with Bell Records and release two singles, with airplay on WMCA, NYC. Summer, 68: The Doughboys are the house band at the Caf Wha? in Greenwich Village. As the 60s fade into memory, The Doughboys go their separate ways. Myke Scavone leads the band Ram Jam ("Black Betty"), Richard X. Heyman drums with such legends as Brian Wilson and Link Wray, Mike Caruso goes into session work and even jams with Hendrix! The present: Richards wife organizes a reunion gig. The moment the band set foot onstage, the years melt away and theyre the tight, rockin unit they were back in Plainfield. Session man Gar Francis (Billy Idols version of Mony Mony) steps in on guitar when Willy passes away much too young. The group gets in the studio and the resulting CD is an instant classic, summing up who they are and how they sound, doing cool obscure songs from the past and their own mind-sticking originals. Garage rock at its greatest!
