Dj Bonebrake Trio
The Other Outside
You may have heard of D.J. Bonebrake as the drummer of the influential Los Angeles band X. But D.J. has always cultivated a mallet-oriented love-and reverence-for jazz. In his 30-plus years in the music industry he has played vibraphone and marimba for musicians like Rickie Lee Jones and Elliot Caine, contributed music for film and TV, and given live solo performances. In 2002, his jazz group Orchestra Superstring released a CD of Latin-influenced, hypnotic jazz music, and in 2006, DJ went to Europe as vibraphonist for Steven Bernstein's Hollywood Diaspora tour. This year the Bonebrake Syncopators, a five-piece group including lap steel guitar, electric guitar and vibraphone released a CD, hat Da Da Strain', honoring the classics of the 20's, 30's and 40's with fresh authenticity. D.J.'s first album of original compositions, "The Other Outside", features veteran Los Angeles musicians Danny Frankel on drums and Paul Eckman on bass, and showcases Bonebrake as composer, arranger, and vibraphonist.
