Cogan, Alma
I Love To Sing
I Love To Sing was Alma Cogans first album, released in 1958 after she had already registered some sixteen hit singles over the previous four years. The album, however, was a departure from the usual type of material Alma recorded, being an interesting selection of well known standards. There was the additional caveat that the songs had a special meaning to Alma, having heard them in school, in films or enjoyed the original versions by the original artists. Arrangements were handled by Frank Cordell, with his orchestra providing the musical accompaniment. Whilst this may sound like an album trapped in a time warp, it is interesting to hear Almas take on Cheek To Cheek, for example. The rest of the album features such cuts as As Time Goes By and Aint We Got Fun, either of which would have served as ideal titles for the album!
