Changing Room, The
Picking Up The Pieces
As if they weren't busy enough with their individual musical projects, Sam Kelly and Tanya Brittain are preparing to release The Changing Room's second album, Picking Up The Pieces. Sam, who recently won the Horizon Award at the 2016 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, is currently touring with his band The Lost Boys following the release of his debut album. Songwriter Tanya organises the multi-award winning Looe Music Festival in Cornwall and is involved in numerous music-based arts projects, for which she writes the music. The new album features Belinda O'Hooley (Rachel Unthank/The Winterset) and John McCusker. Winner of the Good Tradition Award at the 2016 BBC Radio 2 Folk Show Awards, John McCusker also played on The Changing Room's first album, Behind the Lace. Belinda O'Hooley joins The Changing Room for the first time on this release. Tanya explains, 'It includes more songs about our industrial heritage such as mining and fishing but we've also included some songs about deeper issues. When industry has gone, when loved ones die, when we lose our way in life - someone is always left picking up the pieces, literally and emotionally.'
