This Da Vinci Classics album offers a fascinating perspective on the output of Paul-Agricole Gnin, a nineteenth-century French composer who was among the pioneers of the new performing techniques due to the innovations brought to flute-making by Theodore Boehm. Many of his works display the full range of the flutes technical possibilities, and take as their starting point famous melodies and tunes excerpted, in the main, from the operatic repertoire of French and Italian contemporaneous music.
