Campbell, Jo Ann
All The Hits
Somewhat unique among female singers of the 1950s and early 60s, in so much she wrote much of her own material, Jo Ann Campbell enjoyed a brief but successful recording career before settling down as the wife of producer Troy Seals. Her showbusiness career had been launched as a dancer whilst still a teenager, subsequently switching to singing in 1956. Her writing career took off because she couldnt find anything suitable to record, with her debut composition being Come On Baby for Eldorado Records. Jo Ann also made a number of film appearances, including Go Johnny Go and Hey Lets Twist, earning the moniker the Blonde Bombshell along the way. Jo Ann scored her biggest hit with Im The Girl From Wolverton Mountain, an answer record to Claude Kings Wolverton Mountain. Her single peaked at #38 on the US chart, whilst her only UK showing came in 1961 with Motorcycle Michael (the latter not included on this collection). After an all too brief spell recording with her husband as Jo Ann & Troy, she retired from the business.
