Tyneside metal titans AVENGER first raised their metal studded fists into the air in September 1982 when legendary former Blitzkrieg vocalist Brian Ross threw his all in with Axe Victim bassist Mick Moore and drummer and guitarist Gary Young and Steve Bird respectively. The debut AVENGER album, Blood Sports typifies the second generation New Wave Of British Heavy Metal sound in a way few other releases of the time managed to. Belying its obviously modest budget Blood Sports is big on riffs and no small amount of ingenuity. The band were sadly never destined to breath the rarefied air that the heady heights of metal superstardom would have brought them but AVENGER remain an important band that many are happy to cite as influences on their careers.
