2222 - MONJOIE - AFFETTO E ATTRAZIONE - (CD)
LIZARD

First new album from Monjoies after 8 years from "Il Bacio di Polifemo". If in their previous works you could find indian, celtic or arabic ethno-acustic sounds, now the band turn more urban and electric, to prog-rock near the more obscure new-wave. "Affetto e Attrazione" is a trip full of poetry and fantasy, 12 tracks in their original and smart class, among electro-acustic tensions enriched with analog instruments as Mini-Moog, Rhodes MK II, Wurlitzer 200a, A.M. NI B4 Organ and Solina strings.

2223 - MONJOIE - AND IN THY HEART INURN ME - (CD)
LIZARD

"And in your heart inurn me" is the sentence that closes John Keats' poem "You say you love" and is the title of the fourth Monjoie album. The album focuses on some of the greatest exponents of English poetry between the end of the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century, the poets in question are William Blake, John Keats, William Wordsworth. The choice of poems, sung in English and proposed here in song form, does not follow a specific historical or literary research, more simply a direct, instinctive, almost epidermal relationship with the poet's lyrics. Blake's conflictual relationship with religion and the futuristic meaning he gives to infinity, the alleged love without half measures by Keats, the elegance and delicacy of Wordsworth's naturalistic design. distant words and images are grasped, absorbed, trying to discern that pathos, whilst writing a free story. "and in your heart inurn me" can be defined as a concept album, the 15 tracks that compose it are born voice and piano from the collaboration between Alessandro Brocchi, singer guitarist of Monjoie and Daniele Marini keyboard player of OGM, to which were added other historical components of Monjoie, Valter Rosa: guitars and bouzuki, Davide Baglietto: flutes, ocarinas, musette of Berry, piano and organ and Alessandro Mazzitelli: keyboards, analog synths, bass and production. To the compositions have collaborated musicians ranging in different musical fields, making the project heterogeneous. Arrangements with jazz references alternate with pieces of folk matrix, analogue electronics, and a melancholic neoclassicism.

2230 - MONKEEMAN - LIFE IN THE BACKSEAT - (CD)
ROOKIE

Monkeeman from Berlin, Germany self -produced their third album. Singer Ralf Luebke wanted "Life in the Backseat" to not be perfectly polished and smoothly arranged but instead raw and bursting with energy. "Working in the studio was like: Beer, Guitars and Amps up to 10. The occasional swap of instruments included." There are no acoustic guitars on "Life in the Backseat" but the great songwriting and the incredible melodies remain. The sound is rockier and dirtier and the songs breathe the influence of 40 years of British pop culture and sound like a great gig at a sweaty club. The album was mixed by the fantastic Patrik Majer at his Berlin based Freudenhaus studios. Luebke's influences are indeed obvious: The Beatles, The Jam, early Oasis and Supergrass, Northern Soul and the Punk and the Mod movements but these all add to Monkeeman's own unique sound.

2231 - MONKEEMAN - LO-FI AGAINST LOW LIFES - (LP)
ROOKIE

After three releases in 2005, 2007 and 2009 Monkeeman took a longer pause and are now back with a 12-song album flavoured with authentic British Powerpop and influences of Mod-Rock.Four of the songs were recorded as live takes at the Freudenhaus Studios in Berlin by Patrik Majer. The rest of the album was recorded by the Monkeeman himself, Ralf L in his own studio, "The Monkee Cage" in Wilhelmshaven. The album was mastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering (USA).L has had a solid career as a musician in Germany but always wanted to play with a band from the UK or Ireland as all of his major influences are from that part of the world. It was a brave step for him then to fly over to Belfast to find new band members. Belfast however, and the whole of Ireland have numerous great musicians and bands and a great music culture. The four Monkeemen grew up listening to bands like The Jam, The Clash, The Who, The Small Faces and so on and from their younger days as teenagers they believed in bands with attitude with songs and lyrics reflecting on the lives of working class people. Political songs like Dropping bombs on the parliament" reflect their determined opposition against uncontrolled, rampant capitalism, bankers and corrupt politicians. Indeed, the whole album challenges the very abuse of power in modern capitalistic societies and how working people struggle to survive in a world of unrelenting greed and lack of choice in political parties across the spectrum

2236 - MONKEY WEATHER, THE - APPLE MEANING - (CD)
AREA PIRATA

The Monkey Weather is indie at heart. Then, but this is NOT the point, they may sound indie, if you know what I mean, the important thing being that their brit-flavoured wave makes you jump around the room. Ok, the sound may be out of date since 2004, but now, that is cool! Their first full lenght, Apple Meaning, is a big step forward compared to their great People Watch Me "45" released back in 2010, and it's already exciting to figure out where this path will lead them in the future. Their music ideally connects their native northern Italian town, Domodossola to any doc of Portsmouth, where you would find the trio with their hands smelling like fish & chips and their ears bleeding Bowie and Echo & the Bunnymen.

2238 - MONKS - MONKTIME - (CD)
RETRIBUTION REC

The Monks are a rock and roll band, primarily active in Germany in the mid to late sixties. They reunited in 1999 and have continued to play concerts, although no new studio recordings have been made. The Monks stood out from the music of the time, and have developed a cult following amongst many musicians and music fans. Artists to have acknowledged the Monks as an influence include Henry Rollins, the Beastie Boys and Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, as well as The Fall. The latter covered both 'I Hate You' and 'Oh, How To Do Now' on their 1990 album Extricate (under the titles 'Black Monk Theme Part I' and 'Black Monk Theme Part II', respectively), as well as the song 'Shut Up!' on their 1994 album Middle Class Revolt. The Fall have also covered 'Higgledy-Piggledy' for a forthcoming Monks tribute CD.

2240 - MONNALISA - IN PRINCIPO - (CD)
ANDROMEDA RELIX

After ten years, MONNALISA comes at last to the record debut, with an album that is a synthesis between the Italian Prog Rock of P.F.M. and Balletto di Bronzo and the emphasis of Spock's Beard and Neal Morse Band. But there are also some metal prog ideas that refer to Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation. Beautiful Italian lyrics for a gorgeous and magniloquent atmosphere. A classic gem of modern PROG ROCK.

2241 - MONNIK - BEDEVAART - (LP)
CONSOULING SOUNDS

Monnik came in to the limelight with 2015s Vondeling. The album was an almost solipsist experiment into guitar drone music. Over the years, Monnik has never ceased to experiment, and purify his sound. His progress was staggering, and after a few successful tape releases, the time is here to formally present the next step into this Monniks progress. The (guitar) drone is still at the base of his art, but he has tremendously expanded on his sound, diving deep into a psychedelic take on ambient anddrone music. Walk the path of the Monnik. The journey towards the inner self has never sounded this intriguing and captivating.Monniks new direction is heading towards contemporary psychidelica with a firm nod to the seventies psych masters. For fans of: Pink Floyd, Stars Of the Lid, Kohn, Syndrome, Popol Vuh,.

2244 - MONO (JAP) - NOWHERE NOW HERE - (CD)
PELAGIC

The conflict and correlation between dark and light is a universal theme with a historically rich history. Musically, perhaps no band in the 21st Century has mined that relationship more consistently or effectively than Japans MONO.Across 10 albums in 20 years, MONO have convincingly reflected the quietest and most chaotic parts of life through their music. Their everexpanding instrumental palette - which began in earnest in 1999 with the traditional guitar-bassdrumsrock band setup - has evolved to include as many as 30 orchestral instruments. Now, on Nowhere Now Here, the band add electronics to their repertoire - perhaps inspired byguitarist/composer Takaakira Taka Gotos recent collaboration with John McEntire, the beguiling Behind the Shadow Drops. Nowhere Now Here also sees MONOs first-ever lineup change, adding new drummer Dahm Majuri Cipolla (The Phantom Family Halo) to the core trio of Goto, Tamaki, and Yoda. Tamaki also makes her vocal debut here, singing into the shadows of vintage Nico on the poetically hazy "Breathe". The unlikely career of MONO has taken them to virtually every corner of the planet, several times over. Those corners have all left indelible marks on their music, as it drills deeper towards the sound of feeling not quite human and all too human - often at the same time. As British Musical Magazine NME once stated, "this is music for the Gods".

2245 - MONO (JAP) - RAYS OF DARKNESS - (CD)
PELAGIC

MONO evolved into an orchestral rock band and performed in prestigious venues in New York, London and Tokyo, with renowned orchestras by their sides. Following a wave of creative peaks, MONO regrouped and planned where to go next. This departure comes in the form of two albums; The Last Dawn and Rays of Darkness. Together but different. Side by side but opposites. The twin albums were recorded concurrently, yet conceptually and creatively, they are worlds apart. They are two sides to a story, but they remain hand in hand. Themes that have permeated MONOs previous output are revisited through the conjoined albums: hope and hopelessness, love and loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain. Whilst one hand soothes, the other wreaks havoc. The "light" side of this chapter in the MONO story is The Last Dawn. The pared down tracks take inspiration from influences as diverse as minimalist film scores and vintage shoegaze. Noticeably more stripped back than their previous releases, the album clocks in at under forty minutes; the succinct offering proffers the hope, love and joy in a neatly wrapped package. In direct contrast, Rays of Darkness is an altogether more ominous and brooding beast. Notable for the absence of MONOs near-trademark orchestral instruments, this album leans heavily on the aggression of blistering riffs, jarring angles, and a doom-layered undertone. Another dynamic is added by the involvement of post-hardcore pioneer, Tetsu Fukagawa of Envy; Tetsu provides vocals, for the first time ever on a MONO recording. The crescendos here seem all the more threatening, and the diminuendos feel that much more bleak.

2250 - MONO (JAP) - THE LAST DAWN - (LP)
