2191 - MONKEY WEATHER, THE - APPLE MEANING - (CD)
AREA PIRATA

The Monkey Weather is indie at heart. Then, but this is NOT the point, they may sound indie, if you know what I mean, the important thing being that their brit-flavoured wave makes you jump around the room. Ok, the sound may be out of date since 2004, but now, that is cool! Their first full lenght, Apple Meaning, is a big step forward compared to their great People Watch Me "45" released back in 2010, and it's already exciting to figure out where this path will lead them in the future. Their music ideally connects their native northern Italian town, Domodossola to any doc of Portsmouth, where you would find the trio with their hands smelling like fish & chips and their ears bleeding Bowie and Echo & the Bunnymen.

2192 - MONKS - BLACK MONK TIME - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

THE MONKS were five beat playing American GIs stationed in Germany who, after their discharge, decided to stay and continue their musical mission. Meeting up with a team of local managers, they transformed themselves and their sound into a holy racket like the world had never known. This five-person order literally birthed the above genres through a fuzz-drenched evolution of sound, bursting with social commentary and future primitive rhythms. Their landmark studio album Black Monk Time is packaged with numerous period photographs (many unseen) and an extensive two-part essay by Canadian music journalist KEVIN HOWES (Jamaica-Toronto series), and includes bonus material.

2194 - MONKS - MONKTIME - (CD)
RETRIBUTION REC

The Monks are a rock and roll band, primarily active in Germany in the mid to late sixties. They reunited in 1999 and have continued to play concerts, although no new studio recordings have been made. The Monks stood out from the music of the time, and have developed a cult following amongst many musicians and music fans. Artists to have acknowledged the Monks as an influence include Henry Rollins, the Beastie Boys and Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, as well as The Fall. The latter covered both 'I Hate You' and 'Oh, How To Do Now' on their 1990 album Extricate (under the titles 'Black Monk Theme Part I' and 'Black Monk Theme Part II', respectively), as well as the song 'Shut Up!' on their 1994 album Middle Class Revolt. The Fall have also covered 'Higgledy-Piggledy' for a forthcoming Monks tribute CD.

2196 - MONNALISA - IN PRINCIPO - (CD)
ANDROMEDA RELIX

After ten years, MONNALISA comes at last to the record debut, with an album that is a synthesis between the Italian Prog Rock of P.F.M. and Balletto di Bronzo and the emphasis of Spock's Beard and Neal Morse Band. But there are also some metal prog ideas that refer to Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation. Beautiful Italian lyrics for a gorgeous and magniloquent atmosphere. A classic gem of modern PROG ROCK.

2197 - MONNIK - BEDEVAART - (LP)
CONSOULING SOUNDS

Monnik came in to the limelight with 2015s Vondeling. The album was an almost solipsist experiment into guitar drone music. Over the years, Monnik has never ceased to experiment, and purify his sound. His progress was staggering, and after a few successful tape releases, the time is here to formally present the next step into this Monniks progress. The (guitar) drone is still at the base of his art, but he has tremendously expanded on his sound, diving deep into a psychedelic take on ambient anddrone music. Walk the path of the Monnik. The journey towards the inner self has never sounded this intriguing and captivating.Monniks new direction is heading towards contemporary psychidelica with a firm nod to the seventies psych masters. For fans of: Pink Floyd, Stars Of the Lid, Kohn, Syndrome, Popol Vuh,.

2198 - MONO (JAP) - NOWHERE NOW HERE - (CD)
PELAGIC

The conflict and correlation between dark and light is a universal theme with a historically rich history. Musically, perhaps no band in the 21st Century has mined that relationship more consistently or effectively than Japans MONO.Across 10 albums in 20 years, MONO have convincingly reflected the quietest and most chaotic parts of life through their music. Their everexpanding instrumental palette - which began in earnest in 1999 with the traditional guitar-bassdrumsrock band setup - has evolved to include as many as 30 orchestral instruments. Now, on Nowhere Now Here, the band add electronics to their repertoire - perhaps inspired byguitarist/composer Takaakira Taka Gotos recent collaboration with John McEntire, the beguiling Behind the Shadow Drops. Nowhere Now Here also sees MONOs first-ever lineup change, adding new drummer Dahm Majuri Cipolla (The Phantom Family Halo) to the core trio of Goto, Tamaki, and Yoda. Tamaki also makes her vocal debut here, singing into the shadows of vintage Nico on the poetically hazy "Breathe". The unlikely career of MONO has taken them to virtually every corner of the planet, several times over. Those corners have all left indelible marks on their music, as it drills deeper towards the sound of feeling not quite human and all too human - often at the same time. As British Musical Magazine NME once stated, "this is music for the Gods".

TRACKLISTING: 01. God Bless 02. After You Comes The Flood 03. Breathe 04. Nowhere, Now Here 05. Far And Further 06. Sorrow 07. Parting 08. Meet Us Where The Night Ends 09. Funeral Song 10. Vanishing, Vanishing Maybe

2199 - MONO (JAP) - RAYS OF DARKNESS - (CD)
PELAGIC

MONO evolved into an orchestral rock band and performed in prestigious venues in New York, London and Tokyo, with renowned orchestras by their sides. Following a wave of creative peaks, MONO regrouped and planned where to go next. This departure comes in the form of two albums; The Last Dawn and Rays of Darkness. Together but different. Side by side but opposites. The twin albums were recorded concurrently, yet conceptually and creatively, they are worlds apart. They are two sides to a story, but they remain hand in hand. Themes that have permeated MONOs previous output are revisited through the conjoined albums: hope and hopelessness, love and loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain. Whilst one hand soothes, the other wreaks havoc. The "light" side of this chapter in the MONO story is The Last Dawn. The pared down tracks take inspiration from influences as diverse as minimalist film scores and vintage shoegaze. Noticeably more stripped back than their previous releases, the album clocks in at under forty minutes; the succinct offering proffers the hope, love and joy in a neatly wrapped package. In direct contrast, Rays of Darkness is an altogether more ominous and brooding beast. Notable for the absence of MONOs near-trademark orchestral instruments, this album leans heavily on the aggression of blistering riffs, jarring angles, and a doom-layered undertone. Another dynamic is added by the involvement of post-hardcore pioneer, Tetsu Fukagawa of Envy; Tetsu provides vocals, for the first time ever on a MONO recording. The crescendos here seem all the more threatening, and the diminuendos feel that much more bleak.

2205 - MONO IN STEREO - CAN'T STOP THE BLEEDING - (CD)    CHANGEMENT
RUM BAR

Equal parts anthems, ballads, and straight-ahead rockers, pulling from a lifetime of musical influences that come together in a fully identifiable way.Demonstrating that loud guitars and big hooks still have a place in "mature" rock n roll, Mono In Stereo piled into the basement. literally. With a case of cold ones, notebook pages sprawled out with lyrics and images of times long past, hooks, choruses, guitars, bass and drums, and cranked out the next chapter in their heart-felt,heartland punk legacy. Including the gut-wrenching fist raising, sing-a-long choruses of "Different Kind Of Man", mid-western angst and youthful aggression in"Fores", and the lead guitar breakdown thatll be stuck in your head with the first single "The Conversation", Mono In Stereo have delivered a 5 Pack EP filled top tobottom with anthems for a new today. 2210 - MONOCHROME SET, THE - COSMONAUT - (CD)
TAPETE

At the end of the 70s, The Monochrome Set were part of the first wave of post punk bands. Right from the beginning, the band earned a solid reputation as purveyors of fine pop, gaining praise from 80s contemporaries such as Morrissey and Edwyn Collins. Importantly, in later years this praise has continued with artists such as Franz Ferdinand, The Divine Comedy and Graham Coxon, all citing the band as a key influence on their own work. The Monochrome Set sound has often been described as timeless, and that alone explains why, over the years, the band has continued gaining admirers. "Cosmonaut", the band's 13th album, is a perfect example of this exhilarating mix. The title track opens with a Theremin cyber fly buzzing towards your skull before the song hits, launching you into a mirror dimension that is both familiar and alien. The whole album is a trip that starts with a hallucinating cash-till lady, then travels through dream-sets involving cannibalism, disaffected squirrels, strange gods, dying sweethearts, sexual depravity, Alzheimer's, backward evolution, and ends in an operating theatre, amid a sea of medical tentacles.

2211 - MONOCHROME SET, THE - MAISIEWORLD - (CD)
TAPETE

Welcome to Maisieworld!Your host, Maisie, will guide you through a succession of songs that highlight the volatile, capricious and ultimately unstable nature of The Monochrome Set. New doors lead into hitherto unexplored corridors, where saxophones, trombones, and trumpets claw at you from the Harlem-brownstone walls which pulsate with the ceaseless beating of animal skins.Echos from a bygone era of expertise race around you as you careen down these sewers of sound, lead guitar solos leap with rusty scimitars, strange organs slither over you on the damp roof, a growling bass snaps at your ankles, a misshapen banjo scuttles across your path, and, all the while, barbarians shake the seed-filled skulls of the dead.Playful vocals sing of your frail organic nature, the sad dreams and hopes that you entertain, and the dismal decisions you make. Scenes of a different imagination tear you like brittle canvas and rearrange your portrait into another's fantasy.Upon your exit from Maisieworld, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that your vessel is now filled with abnormal thoughts.

2212 - MONOCHROME SET, THE - SPACES EVERYWHERE - (CD)
TAPETE

"On one hand, the music is very melodic and cheerful. The lyrics, however, deal with death, decay, change ... no wonder we are rather popular with the undead," says singer, guitarist and songwriter Bid of the new THE MONOCHROME SET album "Spaces Everywhere". A very particular humor. And a very unique sound: Although this time banjos, Hammond organ, female backing vocals and even flutes can be heard on the new album, experts and laymen alike will recognize: This is THE MONOCHROME SET. Undistorted, nervous guitars, like the soundtrack to a Nouvelle Vague film ... but one featuring Michael Caine, Louis de Funes and Belmondo (directed by Andy Warhol). Peculiarly timeless, it is a sound that can not be categorized. Although rooted in the 1950s and 60s (the guitar sound, for example, is a hybrid of Duane Eddy and Sterling Morrison), it still feels oddly modern. Then there is Bid's voice, which this time is more reminiscent of the great American crooners than of Lou Reed. Bid wrote most of the songs in May and June of 2014. Perhaps the band's popularity among the undead will diminish upon hearing the springtime air that can thus be detected in this music?

TRACKLISTING: 01. Iceman 02. Fantasy Creatures 03. Avenue 04. Oh, You're Such A Star 05. Rain Check 06. When I Get To Hollywood 07. The Z Train 08. The Scream 09. In A Little Village 10. Spaces Everywhere

2213 - MONOCHROME SET, THE - SPACES EVERYWHERE - (L+C)

2214 - MONOCHROME SET, THE - VOLUME, CONTRAST, BRILLIANCE VOL.2 - (CD)
TAPETE

At the end of the 70s, The Monochrome Set were part of the first wave of post punk bands. Right from the beginning, the band earned a solid reputation as purveyors of fine pop, gaining praise from 80s contemporaries such as Morrissey and Edwyn Collins. Importantly, in later years, this praise has continued with artists such as Franz Ferdinand, The Divine Comedy and Graham Coxon, all citing the band as a key influence on their own work. The Monochrome Set sound has often been described as timeless, and that alone explains why, over the years, the band has continued gaining admirers. 33 years after the release of the classic "Volume, Contrast, Brilliance. Vol.1" comes this wonderful collection of unreleased and rare demos. Spanning 1978 to 1991, these range from DIY to high quality studio recordings - many are real gems, but some also failed to be released or properly recorded for a variety of reasons (which are explained in the liner notes) - bad timing, odd decisions, even forgetfulness! The range of styles displayed are typical of this iconic and highly influential band - slices of their sound can be heard throughout the indie and mainstream genres of many countries.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Something About You (1985) 02. I Wanna Be Your Man (1978) 03. Cilla Black (1983)? 04. The Greatest Performance Artist In The World (1983) 05. Reach For Your Gun (1985) 06. Fly Me To The Moon (1978) 07. Love (1985) 08. Whoops! 2217 - MONOLITH - DIGITAL BLACK AMONG THE MASSES - (CD)
HEAVEN & HELL

For fans of; Metallic. Hades, Flotsam & Jetsam, Melliah Rage"Formed in 1986 in upstate New york by members; Anthony Imbrogno(drums), Vince Rao and Ed Lawton (guitars) with the goal to combine the power of Judas Priest and the speed Metallica to create their own offering of breakneck thrashing madness to the metal masses. With the addition of Guy Rivers Bass (bass) and Kevin Callahan(vocals), MONOLITH would set out to do just that.Throughout the next couple of years, the band began gigging around their area, sometimes even hosting their on shows. By 1989 MONOLITH would release a 5-song demo titled 'Experience the Power' that began getting regular airplay on local college radio. In 1991 the band would issue their first self-released full-length titled 'Digital Black' The 10-song recording would also recieve airplay, but now extending beyond New York. As well as leading to distribution in Germany. As most fledgeling thrash metal bands were folding in the early 1990s from what was seen as an ""anti-heavy metal' sentiment of sorts, MONOLITH would forge on for one last batch of songs seeing the release of 'Among the Masses' demo in 1993.Over the years since these recordings were first issued they have become quite rare and have been known to fetch more than a few bucks by collectors and thrash metal enthusiast.Heaven and Hell Records reissue the MONOLITH material in a limited pressing, all remastered for the original recordings. This will be the first time that 'Digital Black' has ever been released on CD.
