For their new album Near Fear, The Lasses delved deep into the tradition of Scottish folk music. Traditionals and contemporary folk songs alternate flawlessly, with the common thread being, as always, the great harmonies of Sophie Janna and Margot Merah. Producer and multi-instrumentalist Janos Koolen has deliberately kept the arrangements sober so as not to distract from those breathtaking vocals. With Near Fear, The Lasses made an album that can easily be compared to Kate & Anna McGarrigle or The Roches.
