1 - SEBASTOPOL - MOONDUST AND BLACK STARS - (CD)    CHANGEMENT
WOOL-E DISCS

The third album by Sebastopol, brainchild of Marc Debroey, is a fact. While the first album"Sebastopolis" and the second album "The Landing" were full of long journeys, emotions andnostalgia, the third brings a lot more tranquility. The tranquility of coming home. Moondust andBlack Stars stands for inner calmness and offers room for the listener to enjoy this peace. Analbum of few words, no messages, no indictment, no protest, no biographical things, ... buttrying to create a space and an environment to stop and contemplate. This without reservationand in complete freedom, nothing is obligatory and everything is allowed. On Moondust and Black Stars Sebastopol remains musically speaking within his eternal and oldlove "Ambient". And there it is: the A-word. A genre that until now is being used in the wrongcontext than it covers the load. Ambient means "surrounding": an environment where you aresurrounded by sounds and where you are absorbed or where you let yourself be carried away bythem. And that's it. Nothing more and nothing less. This environment is created by soundsynthesis, a difficult word for "actually just turning the knobs, hearing, feeling and listening".Does it sound good and does it feel good? Then it is good, simple. Or so it should be.Moondust and Black Stars is a very modest "homage" to all pioneers of electronic music. This is Belgian NeuMusik Chapter 27.

2 - SEBASTOPOL - THE LANDING, 11 - (CD)
WOOL-E DISCS

Jumpers for goalposts? Some memories are infinitely more than just recalling a moment of mindbogglinghappiness or exquisite beauty. In the case of Marc Debroey aka Sebastopol, it's the flightof Apollo 11, its landing on the moon followed by that giant leap for mankind, and the journey'ssafe return: an instance of sci-art if ever there was one. For the mesmerized five-year old, eyesglued to the black-and-white Acec television set, it was nothing less than magic. And it still is. Because, on Sebastopol's new album, "The Landing 11", Marc Debroey travels backto that landmark moment in history via the wondrous time machine of analog synthesis. With itsunique blend of electronic krautrock, rhythmic ambience, crackling voice conversations andprimitive sequencers, "The Landing 11" is a soundtrack in its own right. Enthralling and addictive,it may just bring back the five-year-old in you, even if the days of black-and-white television setshave long gone. And that is essentially a good thing. This is Belgian NeuMusik Chapter 9.
