33 - CAMERA - EMOTIONAL DETOX - (CD)
BUREAU B

Emotional Detox is the fourth full-length album by Camera, now a quintet, following two albums as a trio and one as a duo. The line-up on ED comprises Steffen Kahles, Michael Drummer, Michel Collet, Andreas Miranda and Timm Brockmann, all more or less based in Berlin. Paradoxically, the new, expanded Camera line-up sharpens the focus of the tracks running through Emotional Detox. With Drummer not so much joining the dots as hammering them home with a nail gun, the stronger framework allows even greater freedom for the musicians to express and ultimately align their disparate creative interests. Throw a single stone into a pond and concentric circles will ripple outwards into infinity. A swoosh of parallel lines. Boundless symmetry. The soundscape assumes the quality of a cinematic loop, like watching the same film over and over, yet discovering new things each time it plays. As a mythological Mancunian once said before the fall: its not repetition, its discipline.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Gizmo 02. Patrouille 03. Ciao Cacao 04. Himmelhilf 05. Cosm 06. Pacific One 07. Nicenstein 08. Super 8 09. Feuerwerk

35 - CAMERA - PHANTOM OF LIBERTY - (CD)
BUREAU B

The beat hammers like the pulse of a pair of lovers on the run from a gang of racist thugs - the sound is manic, but from it speaks a seemingly insurmountable inner strength. This arch of tension is home to Camera. The Berlin band is rightly compared with icons of seventies Krautrock such as Neu! and La Dldorf, with a tight and driving sound, yet they are still somehow unpredictable. Hardly any other band understands how to mutate tiny musical nuances into volcanic eruptions like they do. Camera is a motor running at full throttle, where an explosion could occur at any second. Once you have embarked on this crazy journey, you will be fascinated by the alternating current somewhere between a flash flood and roller coaster running off the rails. The cascades of sound convey a blurry image of a boundless desire to revolt, with each blink of an eye threatening to end in purgatory, yet it is damned near indestructible.Michael Drummer is the ethereal Indian paleface who pummels his drums at every show as if we're in the midst of a 17th Century incarnational ritual. In Steffen Kahles, who hails from the world of film music, he has found the musical partner he needed to enrich the tribal kraut beat with diverse motifs and bold sounds. On the third Camera album "Phantom of Liberty", we hear the clever use of playful sounds such as synths that beam us back into the Commodore 64 computer games of 1984; or slightly cranky keyboard pads, as if created by deliberately manipulating the speed of an old tape machine. With "Phantom of Liberty" Camera show that they have become more mature and complex without losing any of their tremendous energy.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Affenfaust (7:48) 02. Froehlichkeit (6:53) 03. Festus (4:12) 04. Nevernine (4:37) 05. Ildefons (3:08) 06. Reindenken/raus (7:34) 07. Tjamahal 5:35 08. Tribal Mango 6:44

37 - CAMERA - RADIATE! - (CD)
BUREAU B

Dubbed "Krautrock Guerilla", the Berlin-based trio Camera has played with Krautrock legends Michael Rother and Dieter Moebius and performed at the German Film Prize and Echo Awards ceremonies. And now, as unlikely as it may once have seemed, here it is, their debut album. A lot has been going on with the three boys. One thing at a time, however. Cameras musical spectrum ranges from driving motorik rock to serene, epically flowing tracks by way of foreboding soundscape ridges. In other words: it can be right in your face or elsewhere in interstellar spheres, where time and space have no meaning; cosmic/kosmische music!

TRACKLISTING: 01. E-go (6:55) 02. Villon (4:03) 03. Ausland (5:52) 04. Lynch (10:58) 05. Utopia Is (6:09) 06. Rfid (7:24) 07. Soldat (4:57) 08. Morgen (6:07)

39 - CAMERA - REMEMBER I WAS CARBON DIOXIDE - (CD)
BUREAU B

Krautrock, that perennial badge of hipness. The ultimate honorary title for repetitive music, as played by Camera. In fact, the Berlin bands penchant for playing without permission in underground stations or other public places (in the gents at the Echo awards ceremony) has seen them dubbed "Krautrock Guerilla". One hears a hypnotic beat. A musical drift that sweeps the listener into a trance. Shimmering elegance, forceful bursts of garage rock, a gentle flow, spherical flight. And one can hear it resonate beyond the horizon of this music. Searching, researching, yearning. Camera have the resolve to search and explore-listen to "Hallraum", for example, the closing track on their new album-they have an appetite for beauty, to play around with it a little. You can still call it Krautrock, if you must.

TRACKLISTING: 01. From The Outside (4:40) 02. Parhelion (7:03) 03. Synhcron (4:24) 04. Roehre (4:09) 05. 4pm (1:42) 06. Haeata (5:08) 07. Ozymandias (6:12) 08. To The Inside (4:41) 09. 2am (1:40) 10. Trophaee (5:59) 11. Vortices (5:57) 12. Hallraum (3:47)

41 - CAMOUFLAGE - GREYSCALE - (CD)
BUREAU B

We write the year 2015. One retro wave follows the next. Synth-Pop is bigger than ever. All around the world, current productions reference the sound that emerged from pre-reunification Germany. So where are the originals - the bands and artists of that time - today? Many can be found doing the rounds at eighties parties held by local radio stations. Others are investing the royalties from their back catalogues in the cultivation of organic vegetables. Not so for Camouflage. That's right - THE Camouflage - the masters of sadness dressed up in electronic songs. The band flitted directly from the small German town of Bietigheim-Bissingen all the way to the United States in 1987 with "The Great Commandment". Their music brilliantly combined the icy coolness of Kraftwerk, the pop of OMD and the melancholy gloom of Depeche Mode. Yet the temptation to indulge in nostalgia has always remained very feint with this band. So it's no surprise that Camouflage now emerge with "Greyscale" - a strikingly current and compelling album, both musically and lyrically.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Shine 02. Laughing 03. In The Cloud 04. Count On Me (featuring Peter Heppner) 05. Greyscale 06. Still 07. Misery 08. Leave Your Room Behind 09. Light Grey 10. If. 11. End Of Words 12. Dark Grey 13. I'll Find

44 - CIRCLES - STRUCTURES - (CD)
BUREAU B

Latecomers to the Krautrock party, Circles created a manifesto of frenzied inertia in the late 1980s, swimming in the same gene pool as Cluster and Popol Vuh. Ambient music for the end of time does not get any more authentic than this. The Structures album is a time capsule unlocked, containing previously unreleased recordings from the years 1985 to 1989. Music which meshes the extremes of "end of time foreboding" and "drifting lightness" to beguiling effect. Music which succeeds in sounding more contemporary now that it did when it was made. Its time has come. Electronic keyboards and guitars are the dominant sound sources. One can hear a Korg Trident, a much-prized analogue synthesizer, noted for its string and brass section ". for the warm, deep layers and harmonies in the upper ranges and bass", Mike remembers. They also used a monophone analogue synthesizer, the Moog Source, a classic of space age industrial design. Considered by some to be the most beautiful synth ever built.

46 - CLUSTER - APROPOS CLUSTER - (CD)
BUREAU B

Cluster (Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius) are considered pioneers of electronic music and key Krautrock protagonists. In the late 1960s, together with Konrad Schnitzler as the trio Kluster, they changed the world of music for ever with their radical improvisat-ions. Having split from Schnitzler, Moebius and Roedelius continued as Cluster, releasing eight further milestones of electronic and ambient music up until 1981, two of them with Brian Eno. A hiatus lasting almost a decade was brought to an end in 1990 when Cluster made a surprise comeback with "Apropos Cluster". Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens. Originally released 1990 on Curious Music.

55 - CLUSTER - KOLLEKTION 06: 1971-1981 - (CD)
BUREAU B

Asmus Tietchens on Cluster 71-81:>> Clusters role in the development of new German electronic music went unnoticed for a long while. Cacophonous noise in the 1970s and 1980s masked the subtlety of Cluster aesthetics, diminishing their force of impact. Only since the 1990s, and all the more so today, have Cluster been identified and celebrated as pioneers. The somewhat hackneyed "avant-garde" tag really amounts to nothing more than being ahead of ones time. And those who are ahead of their time often slip out of sight. Now, twenty, thirty years later, with so many new aural experiences on offer, listening habits have changed to such a great extent that we are better placed to assess Clusters importance, their influence on subsequent generations of musicians. It has thus become easier to appreciate and enjoy their music. The eight (official) Cluster albums presented here trace the groups arc of development over a period of around ten years. Not a particularly extensive oeuvre compared to many of their peers, but prolificacy was never a feature of Clusters constitution. They only released a new album when they felt that they had taken a significant step forwards on their musical trajectory-which goes some way to explaining how varied and different their LPs were. Cluster were no pedagogues, but their indirect influence on musicians and, more to the point, on listeners, resonates until today. Can a legacy be any more alive? <<

56 - CLUSTER - KOLLEKTION 06: 1971-1981 - (LP)

The two authorized recordings presented here vividly conjure up the atmosphere, perhaps even the magic, of a Cluster performance back in the day. One took place in 1977 during a science fiction festival in Metz (France). The other dates back to an earlier show in Hamburgs Fabrik venue. Cluster played three gigs in the city in 1971/1972, including the one partially included on "Cluster II".

59 - CLUSTER - ONE HOUR - (CD)
BUREAU B

In 1994 the seminal electronic duo Cluster (Dieter Moebius & Hans-Joachim Roedelius) continued what they had begun in 1990 with "Apropos Cluster", their comeback album. The more mature "One Hour" condenses essential passages from two lengthy sessions into 60 minutes. We hear sprawling soundscapes, clear acoustic sketches, musical extravaganzas, in short: highly impressionistic electronica. Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens. Originally released 1994 on Prudence Records
